Accounting is definitely accessible with any type of degree given you are able to demonstrate the transferrable skills necessary for this type of career. Skills like problem solving, attention to detail, proactivity, effective communication etc... There are a few routes available but for someone without a starting background in accounting; graduate schemes, apprenticeships and internships are a good way to build experience and start your career. I have worked with people from all backgrounds in these types of schemes, so having a finance or accounting based degree is not the only way. Depending on where you take these, training is often offered as part of the package, allowing you to study whilst in role. Without a background in finance or accounting, this just means you start the training from the more fundamental stage i.e there are no credits for prior learning available to skip modules, you can study either through AAT or a chartered/certified course like ACA,ACCA or CIMA. So certainly there are plenty of ways to get involved. A more indirect route might be to pick up AAT in your own time and then begin to approach accountancy roles once progress has been made there.
